Sam A. Campise '45

Sam excelled in football, scoring 91 points in his senior year, which at that time was the third most points scored by any player in the Houston records. The Chronicle chose him number one player in the city. He, along with Gilbert Arnold, who later played end for Rice, were chosen as All City. In 1944 these two men were voted most popular in their class. Sam was and still is a man of character, faith and a true leader.

In basketball, Sam, along with John Finch, Gilbert Arnold and Fred O'Connor, was the nucleus of the St. Thomas team. In baseball, Sam was an all around good player. Fr. Wilson would use him as catcher, shortstop and centerfielder. He was a base runner and a consistent 315 hitter. He later played for University of Houston and was acknowledged 300 hitter.
